 Lost World Caverns - Near bye in West Virginia and only a 2 hour drive is something awesome. I have seen these in another location myself when I was younger, but, this looks much better.
"Descend 120 feet below the Earth's surface into a vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Lost World Caverns, discovered in 1942, is a truly magical place for both young and old. It takes approximately 45 minutes to walk through. We offer self-guided tours so you can take your time to explore the cavern at your own pace. Just remember to stay on the trail. A guide sheet is provided to tell you about the many different formations that make up this 1/2 mile loop. No matter what the temperature on the outside, the cave always remains a constant 52 degrees. A light jacket and good shoes are recommended. "

Roanoke Rail Cam - Roanoke's railroad is very busy, you can here the cars linking up all night long. You do have to listen carefully but at 3 in the morning there isn't much noise.

If you want to see something interesting, make it a point to visit the Smith Mountain Lake Visitors Center
It has visual aids that show how the lake was made and there is still a part of the train and tracks on the side of the mountain that was used to build the dam.

Drive around the lake and stop at the Virginia State Park on SML

Oh yeah, what Dam? the dam that was built to create Smith Mountain Lake (The lake covers 20,600 acres and has over 500 miles of shoreline.)
